Feeling Better (21 August 2007)

Migraine (21 August 2007)

I had the worst migraine today, complete with light sensitivity and nausea. Blah.

Finally in Regina (18 August 2007)

Fun fact! Regina, Sk is roughly the size of Champaign-Urbana.

Not so fun fact: Regina has a new airport…without photo booths.

I’m in Winnipeg… (18 August 2007)

…and suddenly I feel vintage. Maybe it’s the musty bookstore smell. Or the fact that they actually have real photo booths here (i.e. not the new ones that will “sketch” your face for $10).

The flight here was wonderful, despite the smallness of the plane. I had a whole row to myself which meant for comfortable travels. When I landed, I went right through customs without any waiting. If only it were always that easy. I’m now waiting in the stale Winnipeg airport, which reminds me of a tired 1960s middle school building. Lots of right angles, poor lighting and “modern art”.

P.S. You don’t know how badly I wanted to use the photo booth. However, it just didn’t feel right taking pictures by myself.

The Tommy B’s (18 August 2007)

There is a sextet waiting to board a plane to Lexington, KY. They are all dressed in flowing Tommy Bahama shirts. Even their luggage is patterned with tropical flora. I can only guess what kind of music they play.

Save Lake Michigan (18 August 2007)

I heard this on the radio today:

“British Petroleum has announced plans to dump up to 1,584 pounds of ammonia and 4,925 pounds of industrial solids into Lake Michigan every single day from a BP refinery in Whiting, Indiana — a massive setback to decades of work to clean up the lake.”

The commercial (as well as the petition drive) was paid for by the Friends of Dick Durbin and Friends of Rahm Emanuel committees. I know Durbin is not that popular, but please put your political affiliations aside and look at the bigger picture.

Go here to learn more about the petition and sign up:

I realize that some of you may not have any connection to Lake Michigan or have never lived near it, but I still think the cause is worthy and should be looked at by all.

Going to Canada (17 August 2007)

cn50th1.gif

After several hours of the airport lifestyle, I hope to be in Regina, SK by tomorrow evening. I am subjecting myself to international flight connections, customs officers and baggage checking (and rechecking) and in the name of competition.

There is a certain equestrian event that I am taking part in called the Canadian Nationals. Along with the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and U.S. Nationals, the Canadian show makes up the “Triple Crown” of Arabian horse competitions. I’ll be showing my Half-Arabian “Pink” (her other half is Quarter Horse…a 1/2 1/4 horse lol) in both the reining and working cow.

A side note concerning Regina: I have noticed many people shy away from the correct pronunciation of Regina, mostly out of embarrassment. Regina is not re-gee-na; it is re-geye-na.

Even if Regina is a bit too cozy for some of you, please don’t feel the need to mispronounce.

Hello SeaCo (15 August 2007)

I am really liking these new ceramic tiles by Jason Miller. He was inspired by the colorful shipping containers seen in shipping yards across America. shipcons.jpg
